DESCRIPTION: Wing length up to 6mm.  An attractive Dung-Fly that is rather chunky in appearance with gingery-orange eyes and antennae, a grey-striped thorax and an orange abdomen.  The legs are pale orange with a dark mark on the outside of the front femora.  Head, thorax and legs sport numerous dark bristles. BEHAVIOUR: Adults lay their eggs in dung upon which the larvae feed. DISTRIBUTION: A very well distributed species found throughout the British Isles. HABITAT:  Found on dung and in wetland, grassland, woodland and sheep grazed areas. Recorded from dog, human and sheep dung and outside toilets. PERIOD: April to August.
